Dispatch Center
The Dispatch Center is the primary communications center for all Los Rios Police Department activity at all of the district's offices, colleges, and centers. Our responsibilities include:
- dispatching officers to emergency and routine calls for service
- contacting local law enforcement agencies as needed
- contacting fire and emergency medical services as needed
- monitoring fire and intrusion alarms
- monitoring surveillance cameras
- handling facilities access issues after business hours
- communicating and activating emergency operations procedures
What to Expect When You Call
When you call the dispatch center, you can press zero to be immediately connected to a dispatcher.
Otherwise, you can stay on the line to learn how to be connected to campus police for questions about parking permits or citations, lost and found items, and so on.
The dispatcher needs information from you, so that officers or other emergency personnel can respond effectively. The dispatcher may ask you for the following:
- Your name and contact information
- Your current location
- A description of the emergency situation and its location
- A description of the suspect (if there are any), including name, race, sex, age, height, weight, hair style and color, eye color, visible tattoos or scar, clothes, and so on
- The location of the suspect(s)
- A description of a suspect's vehicle, such as color, year, make, model, license plate number, and so on
The following are examples of emergencies:
- Someone needs medical aid
- There is a fire in progress
- There is a crime in progress
- There has been a traffic accident
- There is a disruptive person or group on campus
The following are examples of non-emergency reasons you might want an officer dispatched to your location:
- Keeping the peace at a civil protest
- Escorting you to your vehicle
- Fund transfer (if you are staff)
- There is a faulty fire or intrusion alarm
- You need a classroom or facility unlocked or locked and facilities staff are unavailable
- You need access to a facility after normal operating hours
