Non-Sworn Careers

Police Communication Dispatcher, Permanent and Temporary

Under general supervision from the Police Communications Supervisor, an LRPD dispatcher will answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service, operate a variety of communications equipment, and process records.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Two years of work experience* involving direct contact with the general public.
  • Education: Possession of a currently valid POST Public Safety Dispatcher certificate or successful completion of the POST Public Safety Dispatcher's course within one year of the date of hire.

*Note: One year of college-level business and clerical coursework (30 semester units) may be substituted for one year of required experience.

College Safety Officer (CSO), Permanent

Under the general supervision of a police sergeant, an LRPD CSO will investigate crimes or incidents not requiring the presence of a sworn officer, write police reports, and interview victims and witnesses while recording statements.

Qualifications

  • Experience: One year experience in LRCCD as a Campus Patrol or equivalent; or one year of work experience in corrections or a security-related field; or successful completion of a basic police academy, or equivalent, certified by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).
  • Special Requirements: Possess and maintain a valid California driver's license; employment is contingent on the completion of a medical evaluation and background check.

Campus Patrol (CP), Temporary

Under the general supervision of a police sergeant, an LRPD CP will patrol campus buildings and grounds on foot or by vehicle, report unusual or suspicious circumstances, and assist with traffic control.

Qualifications

  • Possess and maintain a valid California Driver's license.
  • At the time of hire, possess and maintain a first aid and CPR certificate.
  • Pass a background check.
