What is Safe Los Rios?

Safe Los Rios is a safety communications tool for students and employees. It has two components – a free mobile app and a desktop alert.

About the App

The Safe Los Rios mobile app is available for free download for Android and iOS devices. Features of the app include the ability to:

  • Discreetly contact and share your location with Los Rios Police in an emergency using the app's panic button.
  • Request a campus safety escort from LRPD to walk you to your vehicle or other campus location.
  • Send your location to a friend so they can track you in real time as you walk across campus and arrive safely at your destination.
  • Submit a non-emergency crime tip.
  • Access campus safety procedures for emergencies that may occur on campus.
  • Access support resources.

Who Can Use the App?

The Safe Los Rios app is available for download by Los Rios students and employees (guests can download it with limited functionality). Features involving real-time responses from Los Rios Police are limited to the boundaries of the campus. The app is intended for use by students and employees.

How Do I Get the App?

Download the Safe Los Rios App in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store by searching for “Safe Los Rios”.

About the Desktop Alert

The Safe Los Rios desktop alert serves two functions:

  • Receive Alerts – To receive emergency mass notifications from the college or district. This function will be installed on all college- or district-issued computers.
  • Panic Button – To provide a way to discreetly contact Los Rios Police in an emergency. It replaces the former ERNI button and retains the same functionality. This feature will only be installed on all onsite stationary computers (location services are not precise on laptop computers). Laptop users should download the mobile app to access the app’s panic button feature.

Who Can Use the Desktop Alert?

  • Receive Alerts – Anyone with a college- or district-issued computer will be able to receive mass notifications.
  • Panic Button – Anyone who has access to an onsite stationary computer, including classroom instructors. In an emergency, triple-click the desktop icon with your cursor to alert Los Rios Police to your location.

How Do I Get the Desktop Alert?

The Safe Los Rios desktop alert is automatically installed by IT on all college- or district-issued computers.

  • Receive Alerts – The ability to receive alerts will be available on all computers, including laptops.
  • Panic Button – The panic button function will be available on all onsite stationary computers. We recommend you download the Safe Los Rios mobile app as an additional safety measure, as a Panic Button feature is also available in the app.

Submit a Service Central request if you are unable to find the Safe Los Rios desktop button on your computer or you believe it is not working properly.
