Property
The Los Rios Police Department (LRPD) understands the value of personal property and wants to help owners recover their belongings. Therefore, it is the intent of LRPD to maintain an inventory of all accepted lost and found property.
LRPD accepts the following items:
- Cell phones (any condition)
- Money – cash and credit cards
- Wallets and purses (if they contain identifiable information and/or money ONLY)
- Computers/laptops
- Other electronic equipment more than $100.00
- Bicycles
- Other identifiable or official documents – birth certificates, social security cards, passports, etc.
- Jewelry
- Car key fob & campus keys
- Weapons such as:
- firearms
- knives
- machetes
- words
- other weapons that pose a safety risk to the public
- Medications
LRPD does NOT accept:
- Articles of clothing/accessories (regardless of value) – coats, hats, shoes, sunglasses, belts, etc.
- Food or any food or drink containers
- Items containing liquids or gel-like substance or items which could leak or melt
- Items presenting a sanitation risk (soiled items)
- Paperwork (i.e. homework) which does not appear to be an official document
- Textbooks (if applicable, return to the library or bookstore)
- House or miscellaneous keys and/or USB drives
Found Property
Found property is documented with a description and unique registration number. If you find an item on campus you believe may have been lost, please turn it into the campus police office to ensure every effort has been made to return the property to the rightful owner.
Found property will be held for 90 days; items that are not retrieved are donated or disposed of in accordance with California Civil Codes 2080-2080.10.
Claiming an Item
Items can be retrieved by appointment only by emailing LRPDProperty@losrios.edu. A valid form of identification and/or proof of ownership must be met before property release.
Dangerous Items
If you locate an item that poses a safety risk or hazard – such as a weapon, syringe, street drug or prescription medications – do not pick it up and call LRPD immediately at (916) 558-2221.
