What to Do in a Fire

In the event of a fire:

  • Pull the fire alarm and evacuate building.
  • Evacuate people with disabilities.
  • Do not use elevators for building evacuation.
  • Extinguish the fire, if possible.

Evacuation Routes

Evacuation routes for multi-story buildings are posted near stairwells. Do not use an elevator to evacuate during a fire.

Fire Orientation

All faculty members should conduct a brief fire orientation in class at the beginning of the semester. This orientation should include identification of fire extinguishers, fire alarms, stairwell exits, location/use of stair chairs, and the need for student assistance in transporting people with disabilities to a safe location.
